Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned India will build 100 smart cities to
Smart city improves living quality, energy consumption, cleanliness in the environment by use of technology. Coimbatore is one of the 12 cities in the State selected for the Smart City project.
K. Vijayakarthikeyan, Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation, told The Hindu here that the process of forming the committee will start as soon as the Corporation receives the communication from the Union Government in this regard. The focus will be to pick up key areas and develop these in a holistic manner. Be it sanitation, water management, waste management, housing, or environment initiatives, technology intervention will go up to improve efficiency and to have a sustainable system in place.
The project will also look at recycling and reuse in areas such as waste water treatment and waste management. For instance, building debris will be recycled and made into a new product. Hence it is the responsibility of each citizen to make our city smart by consuming energy, using resources properly and develop the technology such that it does not affect the future generation.
