    Gandhism is more relevant today than ever before. Centre for Studies on Mahatma can go a long way in making education more meaningful and purposeful. The Gandhian Studies Centre at Avinashilingam Deemed University for Women was established under the scheme of Epoch Making Social Thinkers of India during X Plan Period. It was inaugurated on 20.12.2005

  • Aims and Objectives
    • Creating awareness among the community, especially the youth, about the values and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi
    • Spreading the message of Mahatma Gandhi among the mass with thrust on 18 point Gandhian Constructive programme.
    • Sensitizing the mass on the relevance of Mahatma Gandhiji's messages in the present situation when society is in the clusters corruption and violence.
    • Raising the quality of life of people by helping them to evolve a clear philosophy of life.
    • Inculcating moral and spiritual values in teachers, students and the community.
    • Making real education available to the youth that leads to character building.
    • Sensitizing on the role models in the political and social life.
    • Building students of self-respect and self-esteem.

    • Making Arecanut plate as an Income Generating Activity for the SHG Women in Karamadai Block - 2010.
    • improving the Livelihood Status of SHG Women for Better Family Living involving Local Volunteers - 2010
    • Educating School Children on Gandhian Ideals and Principles through Gandhian Study Clubs in Selected Schools of Coimbatore District 2010

    Dr.K.Thangamani

    Gandhian Studies Centre

    Dr.K.Thangamani, Co-ordinator, Gandhian Studies Centre is Professor and Head, Department of Home Science Extension Education and she has specialized in Communication and Extension .She has been in service for a period of 39 years and undertaken various research projects. Spreading Gandhian Ideals and Principles among the community is her area of interest. She has published number of articles in journals, books and research papers in the field of women in agriculture, ,empowerment of women and children, extension activities and community development .

    Miss.M.Jaya Research Associate

    She is working in Gandhian Studies Centre for the past four years and she has imparted various training programmes for Self Help Group Women and disseminated Gandhian Values to the school children through research projects

    Miss.P.Sreeja Field Investigator

    She is working in Gandhian Studies Centre for the past two years and she has visited tribal areas in Coimbatore District and imparted education to Tribal Self Help Group Women and conducted livelihood-training programmes in those areas.

    Mrs.R.Sumithra Field Worker

    She is working in Gandhian Studies Centre for the past one year and she is disseminating Gandhian principles among students through Gandhian Study Clubs in Selected Schools of Coimbatore district.
