    The academic programmes of the Department of Tourism Management have been designed as combination of both tourism theory and practices. Apart from the conventional lecture methods it’s a unique blend of experiential learning enhancing the candidates for wholesome development. The tourism department has been doing commendable work in imparting value added and innovative tourism, travel and hospitality studies. The curriculum is designed with distinctive programs which are relevant to contemporary and participative requirements. It also fosters entrepreneurial dexterity and delivers solutions to the industry that are sustainable, responsible and pragmatic. Nearly two decades the department has been geared to nurture women professionals and actively supporting the tourism industry by successfully transforming knowledge into practice

    • Nurture skilled human resources for Travel and Tourism industry and allied services through education, training and research.
    • Set up a Comprehensive knowledge hub for students to become a successful tourism professional or entrepreneur.

    • Equip the students with professional and Managerial Excellence.
    • Design and develop the curriculum through periodic industry-academic interface.
    • Inculcate economic, environmental, Socio-cultural responsibility among the students to develop quality human resources for tourism industry and its allied services.
    • Enhance research and development in Tourism and allied sectors.

    Genesis and Growth

    • 1996 – Introduction of UG programme as B.Sc Tourism and Hospitality under the Faculty of Home Science
    • 2000- The program has been transferred to Faculty of Business Administration as BTM(Bachelor of Tourism Management)
    • 2007- Nomenclature changed to BBA Tourism
    • 2010- Introduction of PG programme-MTA as UGC innovative programme for the period of 2010 to 2015
    • 2015- MTA Nomenclature changed to MBA Tourism and Travel Management as per UGC Gazette July 2016
    • 2015- Introduction of M.Phil and Ph.D in Tourism Management

    Objectives

    • Disseminate knowledge about travel and tourism industry.
    • Offer expertise to functionaries at all levels.
    • Facilitate cross cultural learning and gain practical exposure to Tourism Resources.
    • Apprise students with various job opportunities in travel and tourism industry.
    • Inculcate the entrepreneurial skills for self employment.
    • Function as centre for advanced research in travel and tourism sector.

    The teaching pedagogy focuses mainly on experiential learning than the conventional lecture method to nurture industry ready candidates at all levels. The department offers 100 percent placement assistance as well as entrepreneurial dexterity. Special Features

    Training Programs

    The training programs accelerate students placement which would help them in enhancing their practical dexterity when they are placed in the industry. Since the training program is offered on a regular basis the students have upper edge of being placed in the industry because of prior experience.

    BBA(Tourism)

    • The first-year program includes practical training in the travel agency.
    • The second year includes practical training in tour programs & airlines.
    • The third year includes training in any specialized area of the Tourism Industry.

    MBA (Tourism& Travel Management)

    • The first-year program includes practical training in the Travel Agency/Tour Operations.
    • In the Final year students can take up industry issues and challenges for their project study.

    • Airlines
    • Tour operators
    • National /International Hotel Chains
    • Travel agencies etc

    Educational Tours

    The educational tour is being organized annually for the benefit of Under Graduate and Post Graduate students to acquire practical exposure and destination knowledge. It is being designed in order to perceive the heritage, culture, lifestyle, traditions and allied tourism components that prevail in the destination.

    • South India Tour: Mysore, Bangalore, Belur, Halebid, Shravanabelagola, Badami,Hampi,Shimoga,Bijapur,Hyderabad, Kumarakom,Trivandrum, Alleppey, Wayanad, Calicut,Cochin,Munnar
