Preamble

Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas Chair in the field of Nutrition Sciences was instituted with a sum of Rs.15,00,000 on 03/01/2018 to undertake higher studies, and research and to conduct outreach programmes for empowering women in the field of Food Science and Nutrition. The Chair will focus on instilling the spirit of scientific research and empathy for fellow human beings among the students and budding researchers and will act as the fulcrum for co-coordinating activities such as workshops, seminars, training programmes, conferences and webinars for enlightening nutrition scientists.

Objectives

  • Raise the research caliber of women researchers to global standards
  • Promote research in the areas of Food Science and Nutrition and related fields
  • Provide a small incentive in the form of an award to the best M. Sc and Ph. D research in Women and Child Health, each year
  • Organize workshops, seminars, training programmes and webinars to facilitate the exchange of scientific ideas, concepts and research findings.

Future Plans

  • Organise seminars, conferences and webinars to nurture an aptitude for research among young researchers
  • Provide a small incentive in the form of an award to best M. Sc and Ph. D research in Women and Child Health, each year
  • Conduct online competitions involving video presentations on Nutrition and related themes
  • Establish a Digital Museum to enlighten youngsters about the life and achievements of Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas fondly called ‘Amma Avargal’. Harnessing the technological development and help the viewers to have a life time experience, the Chair has decided to construct a museum to depict the life history of Amma Avargal through digital platform. This will provide a scope to share life events, thoughts and achievements of Amma Avargal in a comprehensive and appealing manner to the audience. This will also enable the viewers to relocate regions and culture, lost in the sands of time and preserve the values and lofty ideals cherished by Amma Avargal, for posterit
