Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre was inaugurated on 22nd July 2010. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was a scholar and a leader and one of the founding father of Independent India and the Architect of India’s constitution. He developed a socio – ethical philosophy and steadfastly stood for human dignity and freedom, socio – economic justice, material prosperity and spiritual discipline. His ideas of freedom, equality and fraternity made India a democratic country. To inculcate these ideas among the students of our university, we established Dr. Ambedkar Studies Center. Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre of Avinashilingam Institute of Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore is funded by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, under the Scheme of “Epoch Making Social Thinkers of India.” The center was established under the XI plan. The University Grants Commission has given approval for the continuation of the center during XII five year Plan also. The Center acts as liaison and source center in order to study and understand the philosophy of Ambedkar in contemporary scenario and tried to establish links between academics, leaders, activists, Government officials, judicial, constitutional experts and the students as well as groups involved in social transformation of the deprived sections of the society.
