The centre has been offering M.Phil and Ph.D programmes in Women’s Studies since 2009. At present 2021 Seven Ph.D. students have been registered. The University has introduced a course in M.A which is interdisciplinary in nature, M.A. (Women’s Studies and Entrepreneurship). Five students have been completed the course. Co-curricular courses are offered in Women’s Studies for UG, B. Ed and B.E. students. Two credits are offered for this co-curricular programme, 688 students have completed.
Fulfilment Based on the criteria provided under the XII Plan given below, WSC, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women had developed curricula, undertaken teaching courses in Women’s Studies, and engaged in research and other areas such as listed below:
- The Women’s Studies Centre has evolved its area of specialization Viz., “Women’s Empowerment and Entrepreneurship”.
- A very significant achievement in this regard is the starting of the “MA course in Women’s Studies and Entrepreneurship”.
- Women’s Studies Centre is also having M.Phil and Ph.D programmes.
- Has expertise in organizing Certificate Courses for students, providing access and guidance to students on women’s studies;
- Has the capacity to organize training programmes to suit the local community for e.g. Legal awareness programme, health awareness programmes, gender sensitization and financial awareness in the community.
- The Centre has expertise in Curriculum Development for Women’s Studies.
- WSC has built strong relationship with other in and around Departments, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), Colleges, Universities and other Women’s Studies Centres.
- Library and Documentation: WSC has a good collection of learning material in the Centre. The University library is well equipped with books and journals including e-journals.
- WSC has been organising seminars, conferences, and workshops in collaboration with other disciplines in order to emphasize the need to look at problems and solutions from the women’s perspective.

International Women’s day is celebrated on 8th,March every year., when women achievers are recognized with awards and citations and a competition on Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship was organized for Young Students of Coimbatore.
- Networking /Dissemination

Women’s Studies Centre functions in collaboration with other departments of the university, with other colleges and universities, with universities outside the country and with International Organizations such as Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition & British Council. It also works in close collaboration with the District Administration.
- With other Departments of the University: WSC has strong partnerships with other Departments within the university including the Department of Home Science Extension Education, Department of Special Education, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, National Service Scheme.
- With other universities: WSC has collaboration with other universities such as: Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Gandhigram Rural University and IIT Madras.
- With Universities outside the country: Collaboration was established with Judge Business School, Cambridge University.
- NGOs: WSC has organized collaborative programmes with the Tulsi Trust, Isha Foods and Spices, MYRADA, Community Action for Social Transformation, Tirunelveli, VPS Women Self Help Group, Veeravannallur, Centre for Social Development, Nagarkoil, NMCT, No Dumping, Palam Rural Centre, Coimbatore.
- International NGOs: Collaboration was established with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition & the British Council.
- With National Institutes: Director is a member of the sexual Harassment Complaints Committee of the Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding.
- WSC is collaborating with the District Administration for development of an application for women entrepreneurs and also for Advocacy and also for discussions and workshops in the university.
- WSC has developed a network with entrepreneurs including social entrepreneurs, industries with CSR initiatives, business organizations such as FICCI (FLO), CODISSIA,COINDIA,WOBEDA, CII-IWN and the state government departments which support entrepreneurship such as Tamil Nadu, Corporation for development of Women Ltd. (TNCDW).
- WSC also has collaboration with Banks such as HDFC and RBL Bank.
- Training
