The Department of Economics is one of the oldest and main constituent departments of the Avinashilingam Institute established in 1958-59 and turned postgraduate in 1975-76. It offers courses B.A Economics, M.A Economics, M.Phil Economics and PhD Economics. Since its inception, the department has been committed towards promoting high quality teaching which combines rigour with relevance, giving the student a thorough grounding in economic theory, empirical techniques and contemporary policy issues.
