Civil Engineering

The department has well established laboratories, excellent infrastructure to cater to the needs of students of all programs. The department has well equipped state of art laboratories for imparting practical knowledge. All laboratories have an excellent ambience and with state of art equipment. The infrastructure of research laboratory has been established from CSIR grant. Research lab possesses paver block production equipment and necessary block testing equipment

Civil Engineering

The department of Civil Engineering was established in 2012 and offers B.E in Civil Engineering with Computer Application and also Ph.D. programme. The department is actively involved in research activities in the field of Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Green Buildings, Energy and Environmental Engineering. The department has a CSIR sponsored Research Lab catering to the needs of research and undergraduate students. Faculty has also filed Patent for their innovative work.

THIRU T.S. DHANDAPANI CHETTIAR CHAIR

Preamble

Thiru T.S. Dhandapani Chettiar Chair in the field of Social Sciences was instituted with a sum of Rs.10,00,000 on 03/01/2018 to undertake higher studies, and research and to conduct outreach programmes for empowering women through entrepreneurship development. The Chair will focus on training/imparting necessary skills for decision making, domestic and entrepreneurial management ventures of women. The Chair will act as a pivotal point for co-coordinating activities such as workshops, seminars, training programmes, and similar activities for the empowerment of women entrepreneurs.

Objective

  • Organise workshops/seminars/ training programmes for the empowerment of women.
  • Imparting skill for decision making, domestic and entrepreneurial management ventures for women.
  • Conducting     outreach     programmes      for     empowering     women     through entrepreneurial development and
  • Conducting research studies on women empowerment.

Future Plan

  • Organise seminars in collaboration with the District Industries Centre, Entrepreneurial Development cell, and Self-employment training institute.
  • Organise workshops for the students as a way of helping them to prepare for competitive examinations.
  • Organize lecture series and entrepreneurial development programmes in the community to sensitize rural women to empowerment.
  • Providing skill-oriented training programmes in the community.
  • Publishing a booklet on Government programmes and assistance for women entrepreneurs.
  • Publishing a book on Economic empowerment of women - Key Issues and Challenges and
  • Undertake research students on various issues of women empowerment through entrepreneurship.

Amma Chair

Preamble

Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas Chair in the field of Nutrition Sciences was instituted with a sum of Rs.15,00,000 on 03/01/2018 to undertake higher studies, and research and to conduct outreach programmes for empowering women in the field of Food Science and Nutrition. The Chair will focus on instilling the spirit of scientific research and empathy for fellow human beings among the students and budding researchers and will act as the fulcrum for co-coordinating activities such as workshops, seminars, training programmes, conferences and webinars for enlightening nutrition scientists.

Objectives

  • Raise the research caliber of women researchers to global standards
  • Promote research in the areas of Food Science and Nutrition and related fields
  • Provide a small incentive in the form of an award to the best M. Sc and Ph. D research in Women and Child Health, each year
  • Organize workshops, seminars, training programmes and webinars to facilitate the exchange of scientific ideas, concepts and research findings.

  • Organise seminars, conferences and webinars to nurture an aptitude for research among young researchers
  • Provide a small incentive in the form of an award to best M. Sc and Ph. D research in Women and Child Health, each year
  • Conduct online competitions involving video presentations on Nutrition and related themes
  • Establish a Digital Museum to enlighten youngsters about the life and achievements of Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas fondly called ‘Amma Avargal’. Harnessing the technological development and help the viewers to have a life time experience, the Chair has decided to construct a museum to depict the life history of Amma Avargal through digital platform. This will provide a scope to share life events, thoughts and achievements of Amma Avargal in a comprehensive and appealing manner to the audience. This will also enable the viewers to relocate regions and culture, lost in the sands of time and preserve the values and lofty ideals cherished by Amma Avargal, for posterit
