LANGUAGE LAB

Introduction

The Institution has a modern well-equipped multimedia Hi-tech language labs facility established in the year 2013, which is utilized by each department. The language labs were designed to meet the exclusive needs of the departments. Suitable software was installed according to the need and requirements of the departments. This software works for the overall development of the learner and enhances the ability to (LSRW) Listen, Speak, Read and Write in general and professional skills in specific. It is ensured that the language lab is effectively utilized by the students and faculty members.

Students who are weak in their communication skills, first-generation learners, and rural students gain confidence after they use the Language laboratory. It is part of their curriculum beyond that student who wants to access the lab are allowed to use it in their free time. Instructors are appointed to help the students to have the maximum utility of the lab. It provides a good platform for the students to improve their English Language skills. It motivates them to face the interview with confidence, organizing programs, writing resumes, proposals and articles. It provides wide assessment methods to test the learner’s language skills through listening, speaking, reading, and writing along with a rich multimedia platform.

Objectives
  • To improve the English proficiency of learners in all the four skills viz., listening, speaking, reading, and writing
  • To give hands-on practice in grammar skills, pronunciation techniques, interview and presentation skills, group discussions, and listening practices to train them for the future
  • To acquaint students with the use of ICT and voice recognition toolsTo provide practical exposure of languages including English, French, and German (level-1 only)

Installed Software’s in Language Lab

Globarena software & The Hi- Class Classroom Management Software version 4.1 with Cambridge ESOL modules. The student module has the following content

  • Students listen to the lessons live and pre-recorded by experts.
  • Each lesson, such as accent, rhythm, intonation, consonants, vowels, etc. is dealt with separately and extensively.
  • Each lesson is followed by an exercise.
  • After listening to the pre-recorded voice, the student can record his own voice and compare the correctness of his/her pronunciation.
  • Self-assessment at the end of each assignment is submitted to the teacher (server) for evaluation.
  • Student can communicate with the teacher

BRIDGE COURSE

Objectives
  • To prepare the students for higher education by bridging the gap between school curriculum and college education
  • Build confidence to use language for various purposes
  • To reinforce fundamental concepts in basic sciences
  • To facilitate the students to become autonomous learners

Duration Bridge course is conducted for Undergraduate students for a period of two weeks immediately after induction programme when the students enter the Institute from school.

Methodology
  • Hand-holding vernacular medium learners and helping them with communication in English
  • Introducing the special features of the Programme they have chosen and stimulating their interest so that they will explore the subject by themselves
  • Kindling the interest of the learners

  • Based on the learner's level of proficiency of English
  • Focusing on effective articulation in English
  • Strengthening fundamentals in Maths, Physics and Chemistry
  • Introducing core Engineering subjects like Engineering Mechanics and Graphics

Remedial Coaching

Remedial Coaching is offered in our Institution to provide necessary academic support services for students to enhance the learning experiences and to impart essential skill needed to compete in the field of higher education. Orientation and guidance is given in order to enable the students to come up with flying colors in their academic pursuits. Students admitted across all discipline are provided an opportunity to enroll themselves in Remedial Coaching Classes which are offered beyond the regular working hours. Special attention is given to empower students from socially backward communities and students with learning disabilities.

Objectives

The major objectives of providing Remedial Coaching are as follows:

  • To instill basic academic ad linguistic skill in students.
  • To assist the students in completing the academic pursuits including regular teaching-learning activities by conducting special classes, orientation programmes, skill training and psychological counselling.
  • To provide a platform to express their latent talents and to bring out the potential of students to make their academic pursuits as a successful one.

  • Discipline specific special classes to impart basic knowledge in the discipline of study
  • Conduct of tests, revision classes and assisted teaching sessions.

Soft Skills & Communication Skills

Soft skill programme is being offered for the Under Graduate students with an aim to scale up their skills and make them employable. The outsourced training programme develops various skills in students viz., inter-personal, leadership, team-building, decision-making and problem solving.

Objectives:

STUDENT CAPABILITY ENHANCEMENT

GUIDANCE FOR COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS

Coaching classes, a trend in the present scenario and academic hype to anticipate better results, is essential to make student competent. As the students progress towards career opportunities, they ardently aspire to make themselves competent to take up competitive exams. The coaching classes are designed especially for students belonging to SC/ST/OBC and minority communities, these classes for competitive exams are being conducted in the campus since 2005 (UGC Funded) to motivate and encourage students to enter Civil service/ State Government Services. Faculty members who are trained in areas which are under the purview of such exams conduct classes after working hours. A total of 200 hours comprising 100 hours of coaching in general studies and 50 hours each for aptitude and logical reasoning are given for every batch enrolled under this scheme.

Objectives
  • To motivate students to take up careers in Central and State Government Services and other equivalent avenues
  • To enhance the competencies and hone the analytical and logical skills of the students
  • To provide a platform for knowledge enrichment in general awareness, current and allied fields
Strategic Plan
  • Organizes syllabus oriented coaching classes for Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), State Public Service, Bank recruitment, SSC, Railway recruitment, TNPSC etc.
  • Conducts group discussion on Indian History, Indian Polity, General Science, Geography, Banking, Indian Culture, Indian Economy, Indian National Movement, Current Affairs etc.

CAREER GUIDANCE AND PLACEMENT

Career Guidance is a developmental process by which students are made aware of their interests, abilities, opportunities, demand, industry expectation and its inter-relationship of these on their academic and career planning in order to:

  • Develop leadership ability to satisfy the growing needs of the clients

Activities

Adhering to the codes of professional standards, the Career Guidance and Placement cell works to counsel the students by means of career awareness activities. Various forms of career guidance and counseling, has become prominent and better serviced to guide the students towards career and for the society. The orientation programmes conducted by the CGPC gives a wide range of intervention and emphasizes on the active involvement of the young graduating students in all activities and guides the students according to their personal circumstances to assist them in planning for life long career development.

Significance of career guidance is carried on two perspectives, facilitating the needs of students, and development of the Institution. Career Guidance help students to plan and set goals for future in understanding their potential while for the institution, career guidance cell helps in guiding to reframe the curriculum according to the current industry needs.

Invited resource persons from various corporate houses for pre-placement talk, sharing of experiences by personnel from industry establishments from government and public sectors are organized for students to explore several career opportunities. Young and successful entrepreneurs motivates the graduates and assist them in bringing their innovative business plans to reality it is focused to improve students knowledge on careers in adhering to the standards and competencies set forth by industries by means of training and assessment.
